An increasing number of men are dying their hair for different reasons. For the younger ones, it
is usually to look cool or keep up with the trend. For the more mature, it’s mostly to hide the
grays and somehow defy aging. A teenager bleaching his dark hair blonde is a form of self-
expression. On the other hand, a fifty-year-old man with deep facial wrinkles and jet-black hair
spells desperation.

Graying is part of aging. Melanin, a pigment polymer that gives hair its natural color, is
delivered via specialized cells called melanocytes. These cells are located at follicles and inject
color as the shaft grows. As you age, these melanocytes slow down or stop their pigment production,
leading to gray, colorless hair. According to a study, a man’s chances of going gray increase about
10-20% every decade after the age of 30. Unfortunately, a cure for the condition, outside of dyeing
and application of coloring products, is yet to be discovered. Continue reading

An increasing number of men are enjoying the benefits of getting rid of their pubic hair. Some of the advantages of manscaping include enhanced self confidence (less hair makes the genitals look larger), a cooler and cleaner nether region (no hair minimizes sweating and creates a less than ideal environment for odor and infection-causing bacteria), and improved sex life (sex partners are more likely to go down on hair-free man bits).

Before you jump into the bandwagon, be advised that manscaping is not an easy task that can lead to cuts, rashes, scrapes, and infections if not done properly. To make your foray into manscaping less painful and traumatic, we list down these tips to safely groom your family jewels. Continue reading

Most men want to smell great! After all, this is what attracts a possible mate. Thank goodness for the countless fragrances, body sprays, colognes, and deodorants available in the market, the task of keeping one’s self smelling good is so much easier.

There are thousands of men’s fragrances already available in the market and hundreds of new ones are added each year, according to industry estimates. These scents come in variety of forms and spectrum of prices depending on the concentration of fragrance oils used. The higher the concentration of aromartic oil in a fragrance, the longer it lasts and the more expensive it gets. Continue reading

We are all familiar with body odor.  It is that all too familiar stench that emanates from another person and, sometimes, from our very own armpits when we “forgot” to take a shower. There are various causes of body odor such as diet, genetics and certain illnesses but the most common is the lethal combination of sweat and bacteria aggravated by poor hygiene.

Humans have two types of sweat glands. One type produces eccrine perspiration which helps lower body temperature, like when we exercise or when it’s really hot. These sweat glands are found all over the body. The other type is found in such areas as armpits, groin, hands, and feet, and produces apocrine sweat. Continue reading

Gone are the days when men don’t care how they look and smell.  The boom in male-specific toiletries and services over the past five years is a clear indication that more guys are now taking grooming seriously and are willing to spend on hygiene products and visits to the spa to keep themselves looking dapper.

However, male grooming is more than just using organic shampoos and expensive face creams that were especially formulated for men. It is a lifestyle that is, unfortunately, mired with some inaccurate practices.  We list down common men’s grooming habits and identify the truths from the mere old wives tales. Continue reading

Unlike some women, guys don’t need an entire suitcase for their toiletries when traveling.  A small bag is enough to contain all the grooming essentials a man needs to be clean, fresh and presentable while on the go.  The key is to pack only the essentials and only the amount allowed for air travel (100-ml per liquid, aerosol and gel you take on a flight).  Here is a low down on what to fill your toiletry bag with when traveling so you have more time sight-seeing instead of looking for places where to get stuff.

Shampoo & Conditioner
These items are a must if you don’t want to look like you are having a bad hair day on your souvenir photos.  Exposure to sun, sea water and humidity can wreak havoc on your locks, leaving them dry, brittle and even damaged so a good wash and conditioning at the end of the day should be in order.  You can use your hotel’s complimentary toiletries but, unless they are from L’Occitane, Molton Brown and Hermès, take caution because these freebies can leave your hair even more dry!  Pack travel-sized bottles of your favorite shampoo and conditioner. Many teeth are knocked-out of their sockets every year due to accidents, fights and sports injuries. Most of these teeth are lost forever, leaving their owners with no other option but to resort to dentures or bridges.  But did you know that an avulsed tooth (that’s what dentists call a knocked-out chomper) can be saved by simply re-implanting it back into its socket?  Properly done, the root of the tooth can reattach to the jaw bone and reclaim its rightful place to last for years.

However, to be successful, the re-implantation must be done immediately while the cells at the root of the tooth are still alive. The sooner the tooth is replaced, the better chances of saving it.  The American Association of Endodontists recommends the following steps to successfully save a knocked-out tooth: Continue reading
